Alcohol Advertising
By the time teenagers reach driving age they will have seen 75,000 ads for alcohol (CQ Researcher, 1992). Research clearly indicates that in addition to parents and peers, alcohol advertising and marketing have a significant impact on youth decisions to drink. How do you feel about these public displays?

I feel that public displays really have an impact on youth decisions. If it weren't for advertisements, many younger kids wouldn't even know about all the alcohol out there. The advertisements are used to promote business, but at the same time it has negatives to it like introducing younger children to alcohol.
ReplyDeleteI think that media does have some form of an impact on teenagers when it comes to drinking. However I feel that parents are the ones with the control and they have to take a better stance on it if they want to really prevent their teen from drinking. It is trick though when a kid is watching television and sees alcohol being promoted by a group of people having a blast.
ReplyDeletei think that if things are potrayed as good in advertisements people are going to want to try it more becasue it is made to look nice.
ReplyDeleteMedia and marketing definitely have an impact on the youth decisions to drink. Alcohol is advertised all over the place, with good-looking people having a good time. The appeal of the ads persuade kids to buy the alcohol. At the same time, I think it's the character of the kid which determines whether they follow or not. Some kids see the alcohol advertisements and think nothing of it or it's just another ad. So I think the media could have a strong effect on youth drinking, or possibly very little.
ReplyDeleteWhen the marketers are given a product to make a commercial for they try to make it look as clean, crisp, and cool as the product can get. Seeing two people sitting on a beach drinking a corona extra makes everyone think that's what you should be doing right now. Relaxing on the beach drinking the most crisp looking beer on the market. Appearance is everything
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the person and how they view the advertisement. The media does i think have a impact on young people drinking especially if they make it seem as if the product is good tasting and makes you relax. The scene of the commercial i dont really think makes the difference becuase obviously if you buy a six pack of coronna and live in the middle of new york there isnt a beach to go drink it at.
ReplyDeleteI dont think it is the ads fault for getting teens into drinking. It is their own choice and decision. Alcohol company have to get their product to be bought some how right?
